BATTLING FEMICIDE, ANDROCIDE

Femicide remains to be a peadilo, quaint, primitive act and it is insane that people continue to offend women.

People should quell this problem as early as now and try to understand the issues surrounding it. In surprising events androcide is on the rise too and men are also being killed and it's sad, how domestic violence towards both men and women is on the rise in a country that has grown in lips and bounds in literacy. is it substance abuse , alcohol, mental illnesses, toxic masculinity or toxic femininity?

More than 504 women have been killed since 2016 to 2024 by men in different contexts. Androcide is not given so much emphasis like femicide for certain reasons like the cases of men being killed based on their gender is low but that is changing. The murdering of any person is degenerate and it should be highly condemned.

The protests held in Kenya on February which called for femicide to be declared a national emergency and be classified as a special murder was one step to creating awareness. But, if we don't really create it a conscious movement aimed at getting rid of prejudiced mindsets we might continue facing more domestic violence cases and gender based violences.

Maya Angelou popularly quotes about hate and says ; hate has caused a lot of problems in the world but has solved no one yet. We are coming out of a culture that has popularized the beating of women and treating them as inferior beings. This redundant culture should be discouraged as early as kids especially boys are still young.

Women are even more vulnerable in a world that continues to preach poison in the name of “toxic masculinity ” to young boys, the boys and men in general.

It's imperative that as a society we put emphasis on how precious life is and hold perpetrators accountable. There has been great efforts towards ending domestic violence but let's not call men weak when they speak up about being in abusive marriages wether emotionally or physically. If we continue doing so men will want to assert power when they feel threatened by female dominance.

Efforts towards encouraging the boy child should be made and it's great the deputy first lady is doing so. We should try and create balance and by doing so we are able to fully exploit both abilities from both men and females.

We should not celebrate as a community when young boys and men are being wasted by drugs and mental health issues and only glorify women.

All men should also take a personal step towards getting rid of prejudiced thoughts of viewing femininity as inferior and also work towards encouraging themselves.

More resources need to be allocated towards research aiming to figuring out the underlying issues leading to increased gender violence. Mental health is one key area we need to pay attention to. Personal awareness and community awareness needs to be created in efforts towards stopping these uncanny events.

Communication is essential and one needs to know that there are better ways to deal with conflicts and come up with solutions is a good step.

We need to step away from blame games and the “whatabousim” and trying to show how the victims are to blame. Everyone has a right to life and we should not focus on the victims but rather on the evil acts.

Legal framework and enforcement of harsh laws to hold perpetrators should be put in place. This way people are able to get justice and are aware of the consequences of contemplating such an offense.

Anger management should be introduced in schools, workplaces, churches and any other institution in this country.

As a community we need to stop vilinifying divorce since many people are In abuse marriages and they should be given the free will to leave that abusive marriages without the wrenching feelings of guilt or low about themselves.

Forgiveness is a virtue we should learn to practice in every day situation, because that bitterness build up can lead to unimaginable acts and also taking enough time to give a thought to our actions.

All retrogressive and ignorant thoughts should be outgrown and instill good thoughts about the uniqueness in every gender.

Many families are going through economic hardships and this could be a reason to propel conflicts even among the youths.
