Obesity is the abnormal or excessive accumulation of fat in the body .

1 in 8 people in the world are living with obesity but statics show that this has now tripled.A diagnosis of obesity is done by measuring body mass index(BMI) , with over 25 being considered overweight and over 30 is obese.

As the developing world continue battling malnutrition, they also continue experiencing a burden of dealing with obesity which has turned to be a global epidemic.

It is mostly caused by the quality of living such as dietary and unhealthy eating behaviors.Food choice plays a huge role with diets high in fat ,sugars and refined carbohydrates being linked to increase the risk . Trying to limit the amount of added sugar in your diet or no more than 10%of your calories would be tabled as low chances for being overweight.

Children are the most affected when exposed to high fat ,high sugars and micronutrient poor foods. Poverty plays a role making it hard for struggling parents to get foods rich in nutrients compelling them to opt for lower cost foods which result in low quality nutrients.

The environment contributes a great deal to obesity. Where you work , your home ,the neighborhood you live in can have an impact on your weight especially when you consume a lot of fast foods ,lack of physical activity combined with long hours of binge watching tv or sitting in front of a computer all day long can cause weight gain which finally exacerbate the risk of getting obese.Obesity also poses a risk to other diseases like diabetes , cardiovascular diseases and also increases risk for certain cancers.

People living with obesity sometimes struggle with body image while some face stigma which result to feeling isolated, having low-confidence and low self esteem.

Being conscious of obesity and it's risks is important to help you take a positive step to reaching a healthy weight and lowering risk for obesity related health problems .
