The Chuka University Nutrition and Dietetics Students' Association is committed to fostering a healthy eating culture through nutrition counseling and initiating intervention programs within the institution and its surrounding community.
The association, a student-based organization within the Faculty of Nursing and Public Health, was established in 2022 by Human Nutrition and Dietetics students and currently boasts over 155 members.
According to the Chairperson, Kemboi Sophia, the club was formed with the goal of
uniting all students studying Human Nutrition and Dietetics to help them understand their global role in effecting change and making an impact through nutrition education and counseling. Additionally, the club aims to launch projects that benefit the larger community.
So far, the group has undertaken three major projects. One of these involved participating in a clean-up program at Ndagani Market, with the theme "Improving Food Safety Through Hygiene."
The club has also sent members to attend a conference at The University of Nairobi under the theme "Focusing on Food Systems and Food Security." Moreover, they have taken part in medical camps within the institution.
"You are what you eat, so embrace healthy dieting. Consume organic foods, and always monitor your weight to ensure you're neither overnourished nor undernourished, as both can negatively affect your health," Kemboi advised.
The club is led by patron Dr. Willy Kiboi, who also serves as the Head of the Nutrition Department. Meetings are held at the Science Tuition Block from 3–5 p.m., typically at the beginning of each month.
The key to a happy, long, and fulfilling life is maintaining a balanced diet. Watch what you eat, and you'll live well.
