Chuka University Student Found Dead in Hostel, Investigation Ongoing

Lela Chemwetich, a third-year Agricultural Education and Extension (AGED) student at Chuka University, was found dead in her hostel room on September 30, 2024, with the cause of death still unknown as authorities continue to investigate.

 

According to a statement released by the Chuka University Students Association (CUSA), Chemwetich, who hailed from Siyoi Ward in Kapenguria Constituency, was discovered in her residence, and her body has since been moved to Chuka General Mortuary.

James Kariuki, Secretary General of CUSA, while confirming the untimely death expressed the deep sorrow felt by the university community and on behalf of the student body, stating, “It is with profound sadness that CUSA announces the demise of Lela Chemwetich, a third-year student pursuing Agricultural Education and Extension.”


"We mourn with the family, friends, and relatives of the late Lela for the loss of a soldier whose dreams have been left futile. May her soul rest in eternal peace." Kariuki added as he expressed his condolences.


The tragic news has sent shockwaves through the Chuka University community, with students and faculty alike mourning the loss of a promising young scholar. Many have their social media to express their commiserations and especially her friends who have shared their memories of Chemwetich.

 

The university community is awaiting further updates as investigations progress.
