Journalism students from across Kenya yesterday, February 13, convened at Meru University of Science and Technology for the 2nd Media Student Summit 2026 organized by the Journalism Students Association of Kenya, uniting young communicators under the theme “Redefining Media Narratives in Kenya, Africa and Beyond through the Voices of Tomorrow.”

The summit brought together students from Chuka University, Laikipia University, Embu University, Mount Kenya University and the host institution, creating a national platform to discuss the future of journalism and the role of young reporters in shaping credible and impactful media narratives.

The event featured inspiring addresses from David Muchui of Nation Media Group and Gregory Muriithi from Citizen TV, who challenged students to uphold ethics, embrace innovation and use their voices to influence positive change in society.

Media Society of Kenya Regional Coordinator Jackson Karanja also attended the summit, engaging students in an interactive session where he responded to pressing questions about media practice, regulation and opportunities available to upcoming journalists in the country.

Students were further given an opportunity to showcase initiatives from their respective institutions. Chuka University, led by Collins Keffa alongside Joseph Migwi and Pacificah Natanchi, highlighted how they are using Chuka University Radio as a stepping stone in nurturing practical journalism skills and promoting responsible storytelling.

The summit concluded with recognition of outstanding students who have demonstrated excellence and commitment in shaping journalism, marking the event as a powerful step toward strengthening the next generation of media professionals in Kenya and beyond.
