In recent weeks,the story of a young man named Vincent Kaluma,populary known as Kaluma Boy,has touched the hearts of many kenyans. The 17 year old from Othaya,Nyeri County,became an internet sensation after sharing emotional vedios showing how he has been taking care of his ailing father,who suffered stroke in August 2024. His humility,love and determination moved millions across the nation, inspiring a wave of kindness and compassion that brought kenyans together in an unforgettable way.(The Star,2025)
On 28th September 2025, Kenyans from all walks of the life turned the small village of Othaya into symbol of unity and generosity.Hundreds of people travelled from different parts of the country to visit Kaluma Boy and his family. What started a social media sympathy quickly became a national act of kindness. People came carrying donations,pledges for housing support,gifts and words of encouragement, while others sent contributions through mobile money to support the boy's effort in caring for his father. Within hours, Kenyans raised over two million to help with medical bills,food and other family needs. The emotional scene proved that kindness still exists, and that Kenyans have a heart that beats together in terms of need.(Kenyans co.ke 2025)
On 5th October 2025,a thanks giving ceremony was held on Jesus Compassion Ministries (JCM Church) to celebrate and give thanks for the overwhelming support. The church was filled with joy, songs and tears as supporters,clergy and well wishers gathered to honor what many have called a modern miracle of compassion. During the ceremony, Kaluma Boy expressed his deep gratitude to all Kenyans for standing with him and restored his hope in life. His father,who was brought to the church in a medical bed,also gave thanks and prayed for every person who extended helping hand. His mum also couldn't hide her tears of joy she also thanked Kenyans, "Nimeona mungu amejileta kwangu,amekuja bila kutumana. Nawashukuru sana,hata watoto wangu. Mungu awabariki sana." The highlight of the thanks giving event came when Bishop Ben Kengei announced and confirmed that Dr.Christopher Mutembei, the vice chancellor EAST AFRICAN UNIVERSITY,had awarded Kaluma Boy a full scholarship to pursue a degree in Sales and Marketing. The crowd erupted with joy and applause as the young man, visibly emotional was assured that his future would now be brighter. Many described that the moment was a reward of sacrifice, hard work and faith. The Bishop and several guest also encouraged Kenyans to continue supporting and uplifting one another,noting that Kaluma's story had reminded the nation of power and collective goodwill.(Tnx Africa,2025)
The event also turned into another wave of giving. In less than thirty minutes,well wishers in the church raised more than two million to further assist the family with medical expenses and daily needs. Jumuia Hospital also offered free psytherapy and treatment for his father until he recovers fully. The love and unity displayed during that service showed that even in tough economic times, Kenyans have not lost their humanity.(Tuko co.ke 2025)
Kaluma Boy's journey from struggle to hope has become a national inspiration. His story reminds everyone that small acts of kindness can grow into great miracles. What began as act of kindness can grow into great miracles. What began as a young boy's cry for help has transformed into movement that celebrate compassion, faith and togetherness. Through his honesty and resilience Kaluma has shown that even in hardship ,love can heal, generosity can restore and faith can open new doors. Kenyans everywhere continue to celebrate him not just as a viral figure, but also as a living testimony that unity and kindness remain the true spirit of the nation.
