Margaret Nduta, A 37 year old Kenyan Citizen from Kiharu sub county in Murang'a county, was conflicted about drug trafficking in July 2023, at Ho Chi Minh City Airport. She was arrested and sentenced on March 8 by the Vietnamese court for smuggling over two kilogrammes of cocaine. Through the phone, her twin sister Rosemary Macharia claims that Nduta was set up by someone else. The family of Nduta got the reports concerning Nduta through their internet.
This all started after Nduta agreed to transport a suitcase to a woman in Laos, the Vietnamese capital, after receiving some Ksh.168,000 and full travel fee from a man only identified as John. Nduta claims that she was not aware of the content the suitcase had, though the claims felt on dead ears since she was still found guilty and sentenced to death.
Speaking in an interview on Paxson TV, Wangare, Nduta's mother had something to say: " i would like to ask the government, starting with our President William Ruto and his deputy, to show mercy. They are also parents, and they can see the pain I am going through. I am 63 years old, and this is too much for me. Even our local leaders, starting with Irungu Kang’ata and our Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, please find a way to help bring my daughter back home in good health," she pleaded.
The Vietnamese court set her conviction on Sunday, leaving her family in distress
Kenyan foreign affairs PS, Korir Sing'oei says that the government is pursuing diplomatic channels to save Nduta, after the family and friends plead with the government for urgent intervention. Through his social media platforms, PS Korir said that he had a telephone conversation with the Deputy Minister of foreign affairs of Vietnam, H.E. Nguyen, and he said that their petition is under consideration by the Vietnamese authority.
Nduta's execution was scheduled for Sunday, March 16, but its status remains unclear. Other leaders who have pleaded with the Kenyan government about the execution of Margaret Nduta is Embakasi East MP Hon. Babu Awino and Lang'ata MP Hon. Felix Odiwuor commonly known as Jalang'o.
