On 15th October 2025 from 7:00PM, A wave of emotion swept across Chuka University on Wednesday as hundreds of students gathered on the main main entrance (Gate A) to honor the late Raila Amollo Odinga, a man many regarded as a champion of democracy, freedom, and social justice in Kenya.

The event, organized by the Chuka University Students Association, Chuka university Luo Student Association , comrades and local residents who came to reflect on Raila’s life and political journey. The gathering started with a solemn candlelight vigil, followed by songs of unity and short speeches celebrating his contributions to the nation.

On 15th October in the morning, the cause of Raila Odinga’s death was reported as a cardiac arrest (heart attack). He collapsed during a morning walk in Kerala, India, while undergoing treatment.

“Raila was not just a politician; he was an idea, a symbol of resilience and the struggle for a better Kenya,” Some said

During the event, students displayed banners with Raila’s happiest moments showing the respect and admiration many still have for him. A slideshow of his political milestones, from his detention days in the 1980s to his role in the fight for multi-party democracy. The Luo Association leader encouraged the students to carry forward Raila’s spirit of courage and commitment to truth.

The event ended with a moment of silence, followed by a sad moment where most of the students lacked control of their emotion, causing them to shout bitterly.

As dusk settled over the campus, the mood remained both somber and hopeful. For the students of Chuka University, the tribute was more than just an event; it served as a reminder that leadership, sacrifice, and integrity are timeless values worth upholding.
