In a solemn ceremony marked by grief and heartfelt tributes, family, friends, and members of the Chuka University community gathered today in Gilgil, Nakuru County, to lay to rest Felista Wangui Kinyanjui, a young student whose life was tragically cut short following a road accident.

Felista, who was a second-year student at Chuka University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in sociology, succumbed to severe injuries sustained on October 26 when a vehicle veered off the road and struck her and her friend Cynthia. The accident, involving a probox vehicle and another vehicle that lost control after a collision, left both Felista and Cynthia critically injured. While Felista passed away shortly after the incident, Cynthia later succumbed while undergoing treatment at Karen Hospital.

The funeral service, held in Felista’s home village in Gilgil, was a deeply emotional event, with mourners expressing sorrow at the untimely loss. Her parents, family members, classmates, and close friends were joined by members of the Chuka University fraternity, all gathered to pay their last respects to a young woman remembered for her kindness, humility, and warmth.

Felista was eulogized by those who knew her as a “light” and a “bundle of joy,” someone whose vibrant spirit and selfless nature touched the lives of everyone around her. Her classmates shared stories of her gentle personality, describing her as someone who was always there to lend a helping hand and bring joy to those around her.

“She had such a positive impact on everyone she met. Her absence has left a void that will be felt by many,” said one of her classmates, struggling to hold back tears.

As her casket was lowered into the ground, the somber atmosphere deepened, and mourners were seen comforting one another, reflecting on the memories of Felista’s short but impactful life.

The tragic accident has sparked renewed calls from  the students for enhanced road safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Local leaders and family members took a moment during the service to emphasize the importance of road safety, hoping that no other families would endure the pain and loss Felista’s loved ones now bear.

Felista’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched—a legacy of kindness, humility, and a light that will continue to shine in memory.
