It was started as an idea that was brought up by twin brothers Ross McWhirter and Norris McWhirter as the cofounders of the book. CO-FOUNDERS The book was formulated through as an idea of Sir Hugh Beaver. Sir Hugh Beaver was born on the 4th of May 1890 in Johannesburg South Africa .

He grew up career wise to the path of becoming an engineer, a great industrialist and also served as a board member in the Guinness book of world record and Guinness brewery. They both pursued similar interests career wise and they became renown writers ,political activists and television presenters.

It began as a book because print media was more prevalent at that time .It was established and afterwards had it’s first edition printed out and distributed widely across Britain and Ireland. The book as Sir Hugh Beaver had suggested pulled numbers of audiences making it so popular . This led to its rise as the best selling book in the United Kingdom by December 1955. This has been achieved through international franchise and it’s unmatched popularity amongst its audiences. It has been owned severally by different owners until 2008 where Jim Pattison Group took and maintained ownership with its headquarters at Canary Wharf London from 2017. DEVELOPMENT The Guinness Book Of World Records began as a solution to a bigger question posed by Sir Hugh Beaver. His question lacked a point source answer and a credible source of reference.

Sir Hugh Beaver then the managing director of Guinness breweries attended a shooting party in Ireland on the 10th of November 1951. In this event they were involved in hunting for gamebirds for recreational purposes during the party. As the event went on he missed his target a golden plover .In his discussions afterwards he debated and argued with his colleagues over which game bird was the fastest in Europe .

The golden plover or the red grouse. The argument continued but he realized that there was no credible source they could refer to to answer their questions. In his strive for an answer he discovered that starting up an article to solve the problems of facts across could not only be beneficial to him but a lot of people and this would perform well in the market. At this time twin brothers Norris and Ross McWhirter were running an agency that was involved in finding, establishing and understanding facts at the University. Guinness Breweries employee Christopher Chataway recommended the twin brothers Norris and Ross McWhirter to Sir Hugh Beaver since they were both in the line of fact finding.

This connection opened up to the development of The Guinness Book Of Superlatives in August 1954. Sir Hugh Beaver named the book after The Guinness Brewery company since he was the managing director and this could help them also boost sales. As a stretch way for advertising the Guinness brand Sir Hugh Beaver had the book distributed in many pubs for free in Britain. The rising popularity of the Guinness Book Of Records led to the development of an o ce at Fleet street ,London.

The book increased in popularility in the United States Of America after its introduction by David Boehm a founder of the Sterling Publishing. As the Guinness Book Of World Records continued to grow this led to the development of International Guinness World Records day. This was celebrated on the 9th of November 2005 for the first time. The event was massive and international with a lot of people participating in over 10 countries. This led to a rise in the number of records set to 2,244 in a year.

The National Broadcasting Company aired a show of the top 100 Guinness World records of all time later .The Guinness World of Records has built its brand over the years and to this present day it has become the best source for verifying and indexing the world’s extremes. The Guinness Book Of World Records The Guinness Book Of World Records has remained the surest way over the years for answering factual questions on the extremes of the world. It has improved it’s standards of operation.

Accuracy in setting and breaking records is ensured by assigning adjudicators and advisors to record breakers for safety and authenticity. Certain records have also been dropped down due to di culty in means of rationalizing them as there are no unique standards for verification .This includes records such as world’s ugliest creature. Business wise the brand has grown through book sales and fees charged on the record breakers themselves .Authenticity has been ensured through helping of record breakers with advise on the right records to break and ensuring right conditions for such .Corporations use the Guinness World Of Records as an advertising platform where they pay to set new records for themselves for publicity to boosting sales.

To sum up, new records are set progressively this shows that there is no limit to the extremes of the world for both humans and nature
