Zayre Gadgets Hosts Tech Week at Chuka University

Updated: Oct 18

Zayre Gadgets is hosting a Tech Week at Chuka University from October 14 to 18, providing students with affordable hardware and software services aimed at enhancing device performance and promoting proper laptop maintenance.

The hardware package includes services like reducing overheating, cleaning spills, blowing out dust, lubricating fans and hinges, unclogging keyboards, and device valuation. The software package covers Windows activation (7, 8, 10, 11), Microsoft Office, and more. The event is currently ongoing outside the Science Complex.

Eric Ndung'u, Zayre co-founder, recommends servicing laptops twice a year to prevent overheating and slowdowns. "We host two Tech Weeks annually, one in October and another in February or March for the second semester at Chuka," he said. He added that since the first Tech Week in 2022, Zayre has hosted four successful events, targeting 500 students this semester. "We serve around 400-500 students each semester, and we hope to meet our goal," he added.

Founder Robert Thuo emphasized the importance of maintaining healthy electronic gadgets. “We’ve introduced wrap skins to protect laptop surfaces,” he noted.

Savannah Kalekye, a Tech Week supervisor, said they had served more than 100 clients in a day, including students, lecturers, and staff, by midday. "We've educated clients on upgrading their laptops and tailored our offerings to fit their budgets," she said. Fellow supervisor Christine Kimathi echoed this, adding that the main challenges were lack of information on laptop maintenance and client reluctance.

"We’ve partnered with AISEC, Rotaract, and sponsored events like the Chapati Forum to give back to the school," Savannah remarked. Both supervisors urged clients to check out their services, noting, "Our company is client-focused, ensuring laptops are tailored to individual needs."

Students also praised the event. Tracy Ndumi, an Animal Science student, said, "These services are amazing. I’d recommend more students to come." Charles Gichuki, a third-year student, agreed, noting that the Tech Week resolved his laptop’s software issues.

The Kenyan government has supported Tech Weeks at universities by partnering with the private sector and providing funding. These events align with national goals like Vision 2030 and the Digital Economy Blueprint, promoting tech innovation in education.
