Chuka University Swimming Team Confident On Reclaiming Regional Title

By Gitonga. B

The Chuka University Swimming Team alias "Young Sharks" are confident they will reclaim their regional title in the upcoming Kenya Universities Sports Association (KUSA) regional games scheduled for 12 October.

The team, headed by Coach Nicholas Thogo has been involved in an intense training program set to propel them to victory ahead of the scheduled games, following a poor display of results at the national stage in Mombasa last semester.

According to Coach Thogo, the team has reshuffled their training to include gym, field and track sessions aimed at building resilience and fitness as well as increase the number of training days from 3 last semester to 5.

"We are somewhere but we have a lot of work to do. We have a solid team which was ranked best in the region and participated at the national competitions.

We will bring all medals home", he said.

The 17 member team will be participating in all the 25 m, 50 m and 100 m Categories, 200 m Freestyle, and the Individual Medley (IM).

Other categories also include the Relay Medley, Freestyle Relay, Mixed Relay and Freestyle Race.

Coach Thogo thanked the university management for the support accorded to his team, which has propelled them to great heights in the world of sport.

"We have set the bar high for other teams due to the support we have received from the institution and we are hopeful that we will defend our position as a regional swimming powerhouse in the upcoming competitions", he said.

Training is held at the university’s swimming pool on Monday to Friday from 3:30 Pm.
