High-Intensity Rugby Match Unfolds in Meru
In a thrilling preseason showdown, Chuka University's Chuka Vikings Rugby Team secured a notable victory against local rivals Meru RFC. The match, held on Saturday, 11 November in Meru, showcased an intense battle on the field.
Meru RFC took an early lead, scoring a try just 10 minutes into the game. However, the resilient Chuka Vikings quickly responded, narrowing the gap to two points with a penalty kick from Joshua Clive. Meru RFC extended their lead with another try, bringing the score to 10-03.
The momentum shifted as Teddy Wachira's powerful run led to a try for Chuka Vikings. Joshua Clive's precise conversion ensured the Vikings took the lead for the first time, heading into halftime with a score of 10-15.
After the break, Meru RFC swiftly responded with a try, leveling the score at 15-all. Teddy Wachira once again left his mark on the game with another try, though Clive's conversion attempt missed, leaving the score at 15-20.
The Vikings continued to dominate, with Davis Simiyu crossing over for a try, and Clive's successful conversion extended their lead to 15-27. Persistent pressure from the Vikings resulted in a penalty try, courtesy of a high tackle on Daniel Kimani.
Despite a late try from the hosts, who caught the Vikings defense off guard with a quick tap, Chuka Vikings held on to secure a 34-25 victory. The match proved to be a testament to the Vikings' resilience and strategic play.
