In a world where digital communication has become a key concern in academic life, universities must learn to adapt to the changes and act accordingly. Recently, Kenyatta University made a move mandating the use of corporate emails for all academic correspondence. This decision aims to improve clarity, professionalism, and accountability by ensuring that students receive communication through official student emails.

Back here at home, Chuka University ,official communications are done through internal memos and notices. These memos are sent to faculty representatives and then forwarded to class representatives. Most of the time, however, these memos do not reach students
Come to think of it, how many times have you seen a memo or a notice three days after it was released? Why? Most of the time, class reps may be engaged or simply fail to share the memo with classmates.
Still, come to think of it, how many times do you see the notices with important announcements displayed around the school premises? Many times, we don’t even know such notices exist. Others are outdated schedules, and we end up being caught in endless loops of unclear communication, missing important communications or misdirecting academic inquiries.
Because how is one supposed to see a notice placed outside the finance office when they don't attend classes scheduled at the science complex or are off-campus?

Chuka University should consider adopting corporate emails and personalized messaging as a primary mode of communication. Nearly all students use WhatsApp daily, making it a highly accessible and real-time communication tool. For students who may not be active on WhatsApp, personalized SMS alerts and emails can serve as effective alternatives.
In this digital era, relying solely on physical notice boards or class representatives for communication is no longer efficient. Chuka University should explore more modern channels such as WhatsApp groups, SMS automation, and email communication. These methods ensure timely, personalized, and effective information delivery.
Moreover, official student emails ensures data privacy and uphold institutional integrity. Failure to embrace such changes may result in the university lagging behind.
