Chuka University law students took the message of child justice beyond the university on Tuesday 7th October 2026 , engaging learners, teachers and staff at Ndagani Senior and Junior Schools as part of the ongoing Child Justice Week.

The outreach, organised as part of the week’s community advocacy activities, focused on creating awareness of children’s rights and the challenges affecting children and young people. At Ndagani Senior School, discussions addressed issues including underage marriage, Female Genital Mutilation, cybersecurity, social media privacy and online safety. Climate change and climate justice were also explored, highlighting how environmental challenges can affect children and their rights.

The engagement was supported by UNICEF as a partner and guest, with officials from its Legal Department joining the sessions. Learners were also sensitised on mechanisms for reporting abuse and seeking assistance, including the 116 Child Helpline, a toll-free service for reporting cases involving children and accessing support. The discussions encouraged learners to understand their rights and speak up when those rights are threatened.

At Ndagani Junior School, the law students focused on introducing learners to basic child rights and the protections guaranteed under the Constitution of Kenya. The learners were taken through what they are entitled to as children, helping them understand their rights and the responsibilities of those entrusted with their care and protection.

The outreach demonstrates the Faculty of Law’s commitment to taking legal education beyond the classroom and into the community. Through Child Justice Week, Chuka University is giving future legal practitioners an opportunity to engage directly with young people while strengthening awareness of child rights, protection and justice.
